As a refugee-led organisation, UREP is proud to be a partner in NEW ABC in Portugal. Our role includes:
Collaborating with the Universidade do Porto and other stakeholders to design the Portuguese pilot action, ensuring that refugee and migrant youths are co-creators of the activities.
Engaging directly with refugee, migrant and stateless children and young people—bringing lived experience to the mentoring, training and co-creation processes.
Supporting the development of tools and handbooks (e.g., “Mentorship for Better Integration”, “Empowerment of Unaccompanied Migrant Minors through Multimodal Co-creation”) for use in the Portuguese context.
Facilitating community outreach and intercultural activities that build and strengthen inclusive school and local-community settings for displaced children and young people to thrive.
Through NEW ABC, UREP helps to challenge traditional top-down educational integration models and instead promotes co-creation, agency and empowerment for young people who have often been excluded from decision-making. The project’s outcomes aim to be sustainable, scalable and relevant for policy and practice — meaning the work done in Portugal will help inform broader European strategies for inclusion.
